Ethiopian Village Restaurant on Tank Hill Road in Kabalagala has recently established itself as a hub for open mic sessions and a gathering spot for Kampala’s hip-hop community. On the first and third Tuesday of every month specifically, organisers open the microphone to emcees from all walks of life, inviting them to step onto centre stage. Unlike a conventional music show, this one focuses on expression and the raw elements of hip-hop, an immersive meet-up for both the artists and their audiences.
Headlined as ‘C.H.U.R.C.H’, Collective Heads United Reaching Conscious Heights, the event brings together rappers, lyricists and hip-hop enthusiasts for an evening of cyphers and conscious freestyle.
Running from 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM, the gathering, also known as “The Return of the Gathering,” features performances by Babaluku, Corp Zak, Phitzo Kiganda, and guest appearances by The Goddess Lawino, ThaGod Katakwi, Shemy B, Ram Mc among others.
