Uganda’s hip-hop community is once again preparing for the 2026 episode of the UG Hip Hop Awards 2026 expected to bring together artists, producers, songwriters and other industry key stakeholders.

The Uganda Hip Hop Awards or ‘UGHHA’, originally established to uplift both underground and mainstream hip-hop in Uganda have over the years grown from recognising artists largely based in Kampala to talent from across the country. The platform now includes representation from the ‘Northern, Western, Eastern and Central regions’, as well as Ugandan artists in the diaspora.

The awards also acknowledge the contribution of performers, songwriters, producers, videographers, sound engineers and other professionals working behind the scenes.

They have recognised some of the biggest names and most influential figures in Ugandan hip-hop.

Rapper ‘Navio’ has been among the most frequently nominated and awarded artists, earning recognition in categories such as Male Artist of the Year and Album of the Year.

Northern Uganda’s ‘Judas Rapknowledge Da Akbar’ is another success story, winning major awards and demonstrating the growing influence of hip-hop beyond Kampala.

Other celebrated names include ‘The Mith’, recognised for his lyricism and albums while ‘Recho Rey’ and ‘Fefe Bussi’ have received recognition for their contribution to the contemporary rap scene.

Past Lifetime Achievement honourees have included figures such as ‘Lyrical G’ and ‘Steve Jean’, among others.

As anticipation builds, ‘The Tribe UG’, are yet to officially confirm the date or venue for the 2026 awards gala.
